Civic Engagement Program
The New York State Civic Engagement Program is a year-long civic education initiative designed to empower senior-level high school students throughout New York State to become active change-makers in their communities. Through a series of interconnected learning segments students develop a civic mission, build relationships with local grassroots organizers, and present solutions to real-world issues.

Program Breakdown

This dynamic kick-off event introduces students to the idea of creating a civic mission. Through interactive discussions and video segments, students explore power dynamics, reflect on real-life stories, and connect global events to their own experiences. The assembly sets the tone for the year ahead.

A full-day fair where students engage with grassroots organizations and civic professionals addressing local issues. The event bridges classroom learning with real-world action through booths, guided conversations, and resources that support students in developing their own civic mission.

In a series of small-group workshops, students develop their civic mission projects through a mix of guided instruction, independent work, and collaboration. With ongoing feedback from peers and educators, they refine their ideas and prepare to share their work in a format of their choice.

This culminating event celebrates student achievements as they present their civic projects to peers, educators, and community members. Students lead their own booths, sharing their work and impact. The event includes light catering, community recognition, and student giveaways.
